Mary is so cool--here she gives her thoughts on Palestinians and Jews pre-1948, her family’s personal history in the 1948 war, the PFLP (the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine), the history and culture and particularities/universalities of Ramallah, friendship, feminism, cycles of abuse that extend intergenerationally!, travel, Italy, and the United States. Apologies on behalf of our HM rep, who talks too much.

Some terms used in this episode include...

‘Arabs of 1948’ = This is one of many terms used to denote Palestinians with Israeli citizenship who constitute 20% of the population of Israel 'proper' (e.g. not the occupied territories of Gaza, East Jerusalem & the West Bank). '1948' e.g. the ’48 lands’ are terms that geographically coincide with the contemporary state of Israel (which does not include the occupied territories). In contradistinction to the 'Arabs of 1948,' Mary is a resident of the West Bank.

BDS = Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions is the predominant, contemporary nonviolent strategy for ending the occupation of Palestine, guaranteeing civil rights for Palestinians in Israel and the right of return for all Palestinian refugees, called for by Palestinian civil society in 2005.
